What can one say when it comes to British supercars and hypercars?!
It all trickles down to the British Mechanism, style, sophistication, performance, luxury and exclusivity. Let’s start with its target power output of 2,000 PS that makes it the world’s most powerful series production road car and 0-62 mph (0-100km/h) in under three seconds with a top speed over 200 mph (320 km/h).
What’s special to its name & design?
Evija (pronounced ‘E-vi-ya’) means ‘the first in existence’ or ‘the living one’. This one appears a lot different to what Lotus has offered over the years; rather this one is ‘for the Drivers’. Evija has been precision-engineered to deliver an outstanding driving experience both on the road and track.
The brand has limited its exclusivity to 130 examples; It’s a figure set in tribute to the car’s project code, Type 130. The production is set to begin by 2020 at the home of Lotus; Hethel. Evija will set to be a turning point for the next generation Lotus design and high-performance cars.
Russell Carr, Design Director, Lotus Cars, said: “We studied how Le Mans race cars use air flow creatively to go over, under and around the vehicle, but also through it. This concept of ‘porosity’ is key to the Evija and has enabled us to create a timeless design with exceptional amounts of downforce.”
Talking about its shell and Aerodynamics!
TheEvija is the first Lotus road car to feature a one-piece carbon fibre monocoque chassis. The cabin, from the fully adjustable race-style seats to the multi-function steering wheel, is the very pinnacle of motorsport-inspired road car design and technology.
Talking about the design;
The interior appears to be as dramatic as its exterior. Starts with the floating wing dash board, then the two dihedral doors with handle-free technology to preserve the sculpted exterior. The shape is inspired by the company’s prototype racing cars of the late Fifties and early Sixties,” explained Russell Carr, Design Director, Lotus Cars. Once in the car, a switch in the roof console closes the doors. The elegant carbon fibre shell seats are hand-trimmed with thick Alcantara-finished pads. The five modes can be selected as per road preferences - Range, City, Tour, Sport and Track. Calibrated to provide the optimum blend of extreme track performance and on-road comfort, the Evija’s motorsport-derived suspension features three adaptive spool-valve dampers for each axle. They are manufactures by specialists for on and off road high performance applications including Formula 1.
AA Thoughts;
With time the air is getting heavier; where else the cars are getting lighter. Day by day the two aspects of car are loosing the balance: weight and cost. What will the electric future bring?! The lotus has set a new carbon fiber light weight body high performance standard for the electric hypercar future. The detail to perfection has caught on eye on Evija with its aerodynamics, improved downforce and track mind structure, who won’t ogle at such a beautiful Lotus.
