Ghost Squadron 2018.

All K'eggs assemble here!

July 15 ,2018

Our generation has been fortunate to witness the rise and the reign of some exemplary automobile manufacturers. One such favourite is Koenigsegg. Founded in 1994 by Christian von Koenigsegg one with sole motive to build the fastest and the best cars in the world, Koenigsegg has come a long way from being a small car manufacturer based in Sweden to scooping up the record for the fastest road-going car with the Agera RS. Koenigsegg is a perfect example of one man's vision turning into a reality cherished by millions across the planet. CvK, as he is known in the automotive circles, was a born petrolhead. From tuning cars and mopeds to founding Koenigsegg, he has come a long way to give the world what are some of the most versatile cars ever. As most owners say, you could easily daily drive a Koenigsegg and smash a track record with equal finesse.

Over the last decade or so, Koenigsegg went from complying to regional emission and homologation norms to making their cars suit the global norms with the Agera which allowed them to sell their cars across the world. The Agera proved to be the game changer for Koenigsegg earning them patronage from the richest and the most discerning petrolheads from around the globe. Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil went on to own a couple of their cars and had only praises for them. Their cars reek of passion and emotion that comes alive at the first turn of the wheel

With owning a Koenigsegg, you don't only own a piece of art but also are by default a member of the extremely exclusive Koenigsegg owners' club. This club, which calls itself the Ghost Squadron, meets up at exotic locations every year with their Koenigseggs for a drive. The name Ghost Squadron comes from the ghost badge that adorns every Koenigsegg. They began using the badge as a tribute to the Swedish air force’s Johan Röd squadron, a squadron that used the ghost symbol and the English motto “the show must go on” on their aircrafts. Koenigsegg had moved their factory to the hangar that was once occupied by this squadron after their factory was gutted in 2003.

This year's Ghost Squadron saw about 17 Koenigseggs assemble in Baden-Baden, Germany. The drive spanned over 3 days and started from the Brenner's Park Hotel-Spa which was the end point as well after driving through some scenic roads in and around Germany's Black Forest. The highlight of the lineup were two of the three Final Edition Koenigesegg Agera RSs dubbed the Thor and Vader by their owners. The cars are USA bound and feature some spectacular bespoke aero work and paint with crushed diamonds. Apart from these two, the drive also saw a Koenigsegg Regera finished in green carbon. Thi car was showcased at the Geneva Auto show a year ago and was finally delivered to it's owner yesterday at the Goodwood Festival of speed. The other cars included the famous yellow Agera RS ML which came all the way from Malaysia and the few weeks old French Racing Blue Agera RSN from the UK. Apart from a slew of various iterations of the Agera, a bright orange CCR and a few other cars like the CCX, CCXR and the oldest of them all, the CC8R too made their mark in the convoy!
It is nothing but amazing to see these cars being used and not stashed away in a well-lit air conditioned garage as showpieces. And as the Agera RS production comes to an end, we cannot wait to see what Koenigsegg has up its sleeve with the replacement. They have always pushed the envelope like nobody ever imagined and the case is no different once again!

Huge thanks to our friend Nitish Deshpande for sharing these images with us!
