“At the heart of every Porsche is a true sports car” – A line famously said by the sports car maker themselves. If you are a true Porsche enthusiast, chances are it’s only because you must have experienced a Porsche at some point in your life. It is said that not many people can properly understand a Porsche unless they have been behind the wheel of one. It is the one emotion that cannot be expressed using words, but rather felt by the heart of a true petrolhead. The Porsche brand is undoubtedly growing in India, and as more and more enthusiasts begin to wonder exactly what a Porsche stands for, the automaker decided to bring the Porsche World Road Show to India at the only Formula 1 track in the country: The Buddh International Circuit, to give them a taste of “The true sports car”.
For starters, the Porsche World Road Show is Porsche’s way of letting customers and enthusiasts around the world get behind the wheel of a Porsche, and learn more about the Porsche brand as a whole. The brand tours across the globe and has been in 55 countries so far with approximately 50,000 participants experiencing the full range of the Porsche vehicles from being driven on a racetrack to experiencing the off-road abilities of the SUVs. And now, India too, contributes to that statistic.
Customers and enthusiasts from all across the country gathered in Delhi for the launch of the 8-day event, over that time period they would have experienced just about everything that Porsche has to offer to its customers. Among the 26 vehicles that were utilised throughout the event, the one to really stand out would be the arrival of the 992 generation 911 in India. Alongside the 992 generation were some 991 generation 911, 718 Cayman, Macan, Cayenne and Panamera models as well.
To keep things on a constant high, track driving and off-roading weren’t the only things that invitees could choose to participate in. They could also choose to take part in track exercises such as handling, slalom, braking, and of course high-speed laps, all of which sum up the proper experience getting to know a Porsche, and learning what a true sports car really feels like. Its only expected for a brand like Porsche to offer such a wide range of experiences because they genuinely want customers and enthusiasts to understand the reason behind building a Porsche. And nobody could have said it better than the Director of Porsche India, Pavan Shetty, “Driving a Porsche is a unique feeling that has to be experienced first-hand to be believed. As such, our main objective with bringing experiential events such as Porsche World Road Show to India is to offer enthusiasts the perfect platform to experience the cars of their dreams.”
Attendees could either choose to ride shotgun with a professional Porsche driver, or take the wheel themselves and have their pick of any Porsche model they crave to drive, and while they were at it they were also made aware of driving safely regardless of whether its on-track or off-track, since supercars aren’t as easy to drive as they look. Some customers also got a tip or two on tackling coroners the right way from the Porsche professional drivers. Apart from this, the one thing that caught the attention of just about every attendee was the number of times the 992 generation could pull off a launch to 60 under 4 seconds, without encountering any technical or reliability issues, while at the same time keeping the tyres in check.
Porsche has promised many more exciting times ahead here in India, stating that there will be many more events such as the Road Show to follow through over the course of the next couple of years. The timing couldn’t have been any better since India has seen a rapid growth in the supercar scene, with plans of upcoming racetracks, events by automakers, the arrival of high-end supercars such as that of the SVJ and the 911 GT2 RS, it’s only expected for our country to catch the attention of automakers as a potential market for high-end vehicles.
