Aurus Senate, Putin’s official car is a JV between Porsche and some Russian company called NAMI

Aurus Senat, the 6 ton, 23 foot long armored limousine is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter engine jointly developed by NAMI and Porsche.  The development of the Senat started in 2013 and today it is the Presidential state car of Russia.

The new limo and sedan lineup will complement rather than replace a fleet of mostly Mercedes-Benz vehicles in use by the FSO, or the federal protective service, which has been relying on Mercedes vehicles since the late 1980s. The limousine, in particular, will take the place of Mercedes-Benz Pullman limousine, which Russian presidents have used starting with the W140-generation S-Class cars that first arrived on the market in 1994.

The limousine, in particular, will take the place of Mercedes-Benz Pullman limousine, which Russian presidents have used starting with the W140-generation S-Class cars that first arrived on the market in 1994, through the W221-generation cars that debuted just a few years ago. The new limo and sedan lineup will complement a fleet of mostly Mercedes-Benz vehicles in use by the Federal Protective Service, which has been relying on Mercedes vehicles since the late 1980s.

The entire model range, which will be based on the UMP (Unified Modular Platform), is expected to include an SUV, a minivan and a four-door sedan, with the latter two already making their debut this week alongside the massive limousine. All the models in the lineup will be named after towers of the Kremlin: The long limousine will carry the name Senate, for the Senatskaya Tower, while the MPV be badged Arsenal, for the Arsenalnaya Tower.

The Aurus is said to introduce the vertical Packard grilles seen on the very last concept and production Packards, though the new limo has also seen to draw inspiration from Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Perhaps the most unusual feature when it comes to comparisons with western cars are the upright sides of the doors and greenhouse and a very modest shoulderline -- the design team opted not to slant the pillars and windows inward all that much, lending it an unusually box-like appearance. While the front fascia and the profile are arguably a mix of several different influences, including the nominally Packard-inspired grille and chrome-heavy details, the rear fascia appears to have been influenced by the Bentley Mulsanne.

The Aurus Senat is part of the Kortezh series, which will include a sedan, a minivan and an off-road vehicle. The Senat will be displayed at the Moscow International Automobile Salon in September 2018. Cars of the Kortezh series will be exported to the Middle East and China from late 2018. A civilian version of the Senat will be manufactured by a joint venture between NAMI and Sollers. Retail prices are expected to start at $160,000.
