August 14 ,2019
Who wouldn’t like to have a taste of wartime automobiles? Here the Bentley’s history repeats with the recreation by Mulliner to the styling of Corniche right through the R type Continental fleet. Mulliner’s bespoking divison, Techinical contruct and design innovation pulled the car back on its roads. Taking radical steps into bridging the generation gap the styling had to match the today’s high performance and speed.
The project was originally started several years ago by volunteers from the WO Bentley Memorial Foundation and the Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation, but was brought in-house in February 2018 under the watchful eye of Chairman and Chief Executive Adrian Hallmark, who asked for it to be completed in 2019 to celebrate Bentley’s centenary.
The skillful rebuild by the crewe using original Corniche and MkV mechanical components and a completely re-made body, identical in every detail to the original made it possible to restore the Bentley heritage back in the 20’s. In 2008, the project was refunded and started from the ash frame and aluminium bodywork by couchbuilders.
Reassuring the Icon, the Bentley Corniche will wear the similar structure to its name and the main body color Imperial Maroon and the side flash of Heather Grey from the limited descriptions available; Head of Interior Design Darren Day and his team produced CAD designs for the seats and door trims derived from detailed historical research.
Wartime Automobiles shared a classic yet similar body strcuture that optained high speed upto 100mph, where the huge upright radiator of a traditional Bentley adversely affected the top speed, there the smoothed nose of the Corniche was a direct reaction to that understanding. To say with certain improvements Bentley Corniche never made a bold move on the smooth city roads in its time.
To this Century Celebration, Bentley being Bentley re-created its long-lost classic that added to their history’s fleet and celebrated the events in its rightful manner. They showcased the Marque of their Evolution over the last 100 years highlighting their global success today and exciting future of innovation ahead.
Wartime classics, Convertibles and Military vehicles that bonded with the similar characters are the reminders of the anormous role the Auto industry played in that period. In the early 40’s some of the classic civilian cars were ceased that later were used for the Military hardware production. Keeping them into shapes to showcase is as much as necessay as Concept cars. Sadly some masterpieces broke and cant we revived, but Bentley did it so with its Corniche!
