Free practice sessions of F1 in Canada lasted for two days. Ferrari took the first line of the Protocol in all three trainings, making it clear that Canada is a good application for the podium.
The track in Montreal is very dependent on power, and Ferrari show their strength on it and seem quite competitive, just as they were in Bahrain at the beginning of the season. And they went better on tires with red rims, than on the medium.
Charles Leclerc was the absolute leader on Friday. But his partner – Sebastian Vettel – did not lag behind.
What we can say about Mercedes? Lewis Hamilton was faster than Valtteri Bottas in the first training. But during the second practice session Valtteri looked more confident. Bottas went really fast and became the third, but Hamilton finished training only the sixth.
In the 26th minute Lewis Hamilton crashed into the wall in the ninth turn, the right rear tire was damaged. He returned to the pits, where the mechanics had to fix a lot in the back of the car.
As for the Red Bull, Max Verstappen gave hope, approaching Ferrari during morning training on Friday. But during the second practice session, he hit the famous “Wall of Champions” with the right front wheel. The car wasn't damaged, but he lost a lot of time. His teammate – Pierre Gasly - was twentieth on Friday.
But Carlos Sainz from McLaren impressed everyone with his fourth result, while Kevin Magnussen from Haas finished fifth on Friday.
