These two years have been quite a step up for the Indian supercar scene as we saw some cars that we never thought we would on our roads. Right at the top of the I-never-expected-this-car list is the TechArt GT Street R. The GT Street R comes from TechArt’s bloodline of the most extremely tuned 911 turbo Ss. It features a plethora of changes in and out taking the turbo S to an all new level of insanity. With the 991 generation 911 turbo S, TechArt once again outdid itself by making a missile off the car. With 720 horses on tap coupled with a whopping 920nm of torque, the GT Street R propels itself to a 100 kph in 2.5 seconds. Mind-numbing numbers!
Insanity is exclusive and TechArt made only 30 examples of the GT Street R and needless to say, nobody in their wildest dreams expected to see one plying our Indian roads. Here’s where Bren Garage steps in. Bren Garage is a name that every car-guy in India is familiar with. Mr. Boopesh Reddy, the man behind Bren Garage, is a man of exemplary taste and when we learnt that the GT Street R will sit pretty in his garage, we all knew nobody deserved this monster more than this gentleman. And since we said sit pretty, it is NOT to be taken in the literal sense! If there’s anything that Mr. Reddy loves more than his cars then that is driving them. His cars are driven, and driven well at that! With a splattering of track-days in his yearly schedule, his cars see the city roads and highways too along with the track tarmac. This time around, he decided to make his work trip to Mumbai all the more special by bringing his TechArt GT Street R along.
As we learnt that the car was coming along with him to Mumbai, we couldn’t let go off an opportunity to document this road-going missile to share with you guys here. Mr. Reddy, being ever so gracious as he is, agreed to letting us shoot the car in almost no time! Thrilled as any car guy would be, we were up at 4.30am. As we made our way to the meeting spot, the sight of the GT Street R finished in a shade of Miami Blue was enough to brighten up a really grey morning. As Mr. Reddy fired the car up, the sound that emanates from the quadruple central exit exhausts is something we’ve never heard before. The GT Street R has this very in-your-face persona and this is just accentuated by it’s exhaust note. The deep bassy rumble at idle is the kind that would vibrate every ounce of fat in your body and at full chat, this car is would to mute anything around it!
TechArt calls the GT Street R the race car for the road. The car is equally suited for daily driving as it is for annihilating shiny eight and twelve cylinder’d cars around the track. On the exterior, the GT Street R features a lashing of carbon fibre all over. The active front apron is redesigned for optimum aerodynamics which works in conjunction with the double-decker rear wing. In Performance Mode, the GT Street R wing is raised automatically and its angle is adjusted by up to 15 degrees. The front trunk lid is all carbon fibre and so is the new bumper. The diffuser too is redesigned with a very aggressive full TechArt four-pipe exhaust set up sitting right in the centre. The wheels are replaced with TechArt’s 20-inch Formula IV race centrelock wheels with very beefy tires to ensure the required grip. TechArt also provides some trick options for the chassis for optimum handling so that the driver can juice out the best from the car. And since the car is primarily intended for road use, it also comes with an axle lifter to be able to crawl over obstacles on the road. The interior too is re-trimmed fully by TechArt with a new steering wheel which is smaller in diameter. One can also opt for the ClubSport package which adds a roll-cage and race seats with a four point harness that turns the car into a track monster.
This very TechArt GT Street R is the first car to be built outside TechArt’s facility in Germany. Built fully in Bangalore by the supercar geniuses at RaceTech, this reinforces my opening line of this being the most unexpected car in India! And today here we are, witnessing this beast from Bangalore painting a city a thousand kilometres blue. Such mornings are surreal. You don’t know how and why but there you are, just witnessing some poetry in motion. Beastly poetry at that!
As they say, the combination of passion and money is a very rare one and Mr. Reddy here has both in just the perfect proportions. A few years ago, nobody even thought we would be seeing such special cars in India but fast forward to 2018, we are not only seeing such cars come to India but also are seeing then being used they way they were intended to be. There isn’t anything more satisfying to see a tastefully built car be used the way deserves to be. The car may not be your own but if you are a true blue petrolhead, you would relate to me when I say that it does feel good to see such cars in the right hands. I think this is what binds us like-minded car nuts together, you needn’t really have a supercar to be able to live, share and relate to the passion. And this is why people like Mr. Reddy serve as an inspiration to thousands across the country. While he shares his love for cars with us, it just gives us that additional spark of aspiration to get going with whatever you are doing to be able to live the dream one day. The dream here relates to cars, just cars. As we part, we cannot thank enough Mr. Reddy enough, not just for so kindly letting us shoot the car and make time for a great chat but also for putting life back into the country’s car scene. You would want to watch out for this one garage!
We thank Mr. Boopesh Reddy for letting us shoot his pride and joy and take our time while at it! Thank you so much for your support!
