Lamborghini Bengaluru Giro has over time become a biannual event that is marked on every petrolhead’s calendar. The first Giro of 2018 took place a few days ago when the wolfpack drove down to Bagepalli Toll Post near the Andhra border and back to Taj Bangalore. With 15 cars in attendance, this event has grown exceptionally over the last year. To put things into perspective, Lamborghini Bengaluru’s first drive event had just two cars in attendance, one of which as their test drive car while the last two events saw close to 25 cars in attendance. Considering a market as nascent as India’s, these numbers are nothing short of phenomenal. There was once a time when there were no roads to drive such cars on and now we have people not waiting for a reason to pull these cars out. Right from one owner passionately using his for his factory runs which is about a 100 kilometeres away to another ditching the plane for his Lamborghini to do intercity runs in. Talk about being passionate!
This edition of the Giro saw 15 cars in attendance. With Huracans dominating, there were three Gallardos and two Aventadors present alongside. Not that we are complaining! It is astonishing to see how well the Huracan has done in the country. It is a fairly expensive supercar costing northwards of INR 4 crore but the typical Lambo persona along with a dash of practicality has been a hit with the Indian well-heeled who are not just splurging on these but also using the cars the way they were meant to be. Heck, just for this drive we had three Huracans drive down from Kerala, and one from Mysore.
The kind of unity that cars brings among people is unparalleled. The drive was scheduled to begin at 7 am from the Lamborghini Bengaluru showroom premises and crowds began dropping in from 6 am itself to grab a glimpse of the cars lining up. The crowds multiplied faster than bunnies in an hour and took over the entire road. It isn’t everyday that you get to see a few hundred people cheering for cars as they drive in. Unarguably, the most favourite was the Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster from kvp_64’s expansive collection which made it’s entry in style being tailed by his Huracan. What was amazing is people travelled from neighbouring states only to catch a glimpse of these cars as the drove across the city. For people like you and me, these cars might as well be the biggest source of motivation and for the exact same reason, kudos to Lamborghini Bengaluru for not only organizing a show like this but also making sure they share it with the like minds around!
As the drive flagged off, the neighbours clearly weren’t pleased with the V10s and V12s piercing through the Sunday morning peace. Sorry guys, your sleep was sacrificed for a good reason! The sound of just one Lamborghini is enough to make your hair stand on its ends, imagine 15 of them at once at full chat for over an hour. A few even with aftermarket systems for a good measure, this is the definition of aural nirvana. And this is when you realise why the Aventador SV is such a crowd pleaser. It sings through one-of-thirty made Valentino Balboni Exhaust system milled out of titanium. The kind of symphony it makes is enough for a “crisis” as Jezza would put it. Borderline obscene!
After over an hour of tarmac ripping, the cars made their way to Taj Bangalore for brunch. Now for those of you are from or have been to Bangalore would know that the road that leads to the airport is easily one of the most aesthetic in the city. Now imagine 15 Lamborghinis thundering down that stretch! Pinch yourself moment much? As the cars lined up at the hotel, it was a great time mingling and chatting up with some fellow carguys. Just as we concluded this is what paradise would look like, we were interrupted by the distinct sheik of a Lamborghini V12 and in came a stunning light blue Aventador Roadster. This particular car happens to be the earliest Aventador Roadster of the country and in my opinion, the best spec around. While you see most of them on bright and loud colours, it is surprising how well the Aventador wears a rather understated shade of blue. Called Azzuro Thetys, this is a personal favourite. And oh, this one had a rathe interesting escort car. A Mercedes G 63 AMG, no less!
Most of my time post this was spent in ogling at this Aventador and I left the venue after hearing the SV start-up once more. Oh that bliss! Something that cannot be put into words. Cue, Mr. JWW’s lack of words! Signing off by thanking Lamborghini Bengaluru, Suresh Babu Sukumaran and Anil Kapse for having me over. Hoping to see more such events happening in India not just with Lamborghini but other marques as well!
